Wet Basement or Crawl Space

A wet basement or crawl space can be a serious situation for both your home and your personal health as well.

Wet Basements affect the air quality of your entire home and damp wet basements can also contribute to black mold growth which is a serious health hazard for you and your family.

Basement Leaks

Most water leaks in your basement or crawl space occur along the bottom seams of you homes foundation, but the also may enter through the seams in your block or stone walls, cracks in your walls and around your basement windows.  All of which should be corrected as soon as possible.

Basements are built in the ground and are made out of pourous masonry materials such as block, stone or concrete.  As a result your basement is constantly being subjected to moisture from all sides in which the upper levels of your home are not subjected too.  Think of it this way, you dig your basement in clay which creates a clay bowl around your home, when it rains this bowl fills up because of the loose backfill around your home.  All this water needs to go somewhere and if you do not have a proper drainage system the water will penetrate your walls and floor and will enter your home causing you seriuos problems over time.

Mold / Black Mold

Mold spores unfortunately are found everywhere and are constantly all around us and most of us don't really think about it.  Mold growth occurs when three things are combined, heat, moisture and a food source.

Food sources for mold generally include wood, fiber or paper.  These can be wall panels, floor joist, furniture, cardboard, drywall and cloths.  All of which you have atleast one or all of the above items in your basement.  Add moisture and heat and the mold will begin to grow and affect the air quality of your home and your general over all health in time.

In order to remedy this one of the three must be removed to stop the mold growth, which we remove the moisture from your basement.

Basement Waterproofing

There are a few ways to remedy this problem but it usually includes installing new drain tile along the interior of your basement, putting a new drain tile along the outside of your foundation or possibly even both depending on where you live and how much moisure you have entering your home.  In addition a new sump-pump may also have to be installed.

To have an expert come explain everything that must be done give us a call today and we will come out and do an inspection on your basement and give our recommendations to fix your water problems.
